Square footage is often a problem in urban areas, but if you are blessed with good ceiling height and ingenuity – there is always a solution. This unusual London loft comfortably houses full-size living, dining, and sleeping areas in a small space. This is achieved by putting the bedroom on a platform, suspended from the ceiling. It’s high enough to have some level of privacy, and the skylight right above the bed prevents any claustrophobic feelings. The staircase, leading to the bedroom, extends all the way to the roof garden – another beautiful detail. I also quite like the open vintage bathtub (with the shower curtain serving as a window curtain). An uninhibited and smart use of space.
This sink has been designed by Monica Graffeo for Italian brand Rexa, and it’s a beauty. The ample storage the piece contains does not take away from the elegance of the form. Inspired by Japanese aesthetic, the piece looks minimalist and simple. I quite like the fact that the shelving and the base-basket look as if they were one continuous unit.

Not sure why designers called this bookcase Rocky, possibly because it truly rocks. Created by Charles Kalpakian of Paris-based studio La Chance, the piece features an angular and sculptural line. Designer created a 3D variation of a classic pattern used by cabinet makers. He plays with our perception of space and volume with an object that reveals and changes according to the observer’s point of view. Brilliant! Available for purchase here.

This product has been born as an answer to our daily frustrating task of looking for keys and essentials. The Butterfly hook by Copenhagen based studio Makers With Agendas is a great addition to an entryway area. The dual function allows you to hang your clothes while keeping all your small items handy. Light and unpretentious, the piece is made of powder coated steel. It comes in ten colors and two sizes. Available for purchase through designers’ website.
This incredible school bus conversion makes for a highly unusual mobile home. Designed by studio wpiCreative and sold to a young couple from Wyoming, this small house on wheels has almost every convenience imaginable (except for a bathroom, so the inhabitants are encouraged to fertilize the outside vegetation). The place includes: bamboo floor, pine tongue-n-groove ceiling, oak kitchen cabinets, designer sink & faucet, pine-board closet & pine shelves, wood-burning stove, full insulation, fir deck on the roof. “It looks pretty plain on the outside, but on the inside you hardly know you’re in a bus, – designers say, – it feels like a combination of a contemporary studio loft and a log cabin.”

Not only a rad idea but also an aesthetic candy, the SLÎT Bike Hook is a new minimalist creation of Berlin based studio Mikili. When open, SLÎT is a stable holder for your ride. When closed, SLÎT withdraws so discreetly that it practically becomes one with the wall. While the shelf provides space for your equipment, the protective felt overlay guarantees soft but secure support for your cherished frame. What a beauty! Available in black and white.
Plumen Drop Cap pendant lamp is a minimalist lighting fixture that turns a lightbulb into a focal point. The special energy saving Plumen bulb is a thing of beauty in itself. The Drop Cap covers the lamp holder and the upper part of the bulb, framing the glass tubes of this bulb perfectly. The set comes with a cap and canopy, and matching fabric cable 6 1/2 feet (2 m) long. It can be attached to just about any ceiling and the cable can be adjusted in length as needed. The piece looks equally stunning as a single fixture or in clusters. Available for purchase here.
I’m back from my vacation with something that sure can make diving into work more pleasant – a beautifully designed desk. Envisioned by designer Adam Denney of Bee9 and hand built by Fruitwood Furniture, the piece is a good fit for any place, especially a small one. The drop leaf design allows folding it into a slim console. In its unfolded mode, the desk features generous working surface, storage, as well as slots for wires, laptops and tablets. Made out of solid birch ply, the piece can be stained in four different colors. Available for purchase here.
