Designed by French studio Nicolas Schuybroek Architects, the apartment utilizes clever combinations of marble, stone and timber to create visual layers and sense of warmth. Carefully selected and strategically placed art opens up the rooms even further. A beautiful example of minimalism in a tiny space.

This ingenious little light, called Skipper, has been created by German company Toshi. The beauty of this piece lies in its simplicity. A single piece of metal is shaped in such a way that it holds a book and a light bulb at the same time. Just stick it on a shelf, turn on the power switch, and you’re done. Skipper comes in white, copper, steel and black. There is a shelf and a bookend variety to choose from. Great idea!

This witty object can blend seamlessly with any style, and it’s perfect for any corner. The operation of the light is intuitive and fun. Pull your book from the wooden peak to turn the lamp on. This hybrid between a chair and stepladder is so simple and clever – I wish I had thought of it. Designed by Maarten Olden for Altrex, it is perfect for a small space. It’s attractive, utilitarian and it folds flat. Here is how designer describes it: “Usit originated in the desire to create a stepladder that fits into a contemporary interior. Today’s stepladders often look too utilitarian, and they are quickly returned to storage after being used. Although it is collapsible, the Usit doesn’t have to be packed away.” The two-step version of Usit can be used as a seat, the three-step version as a high stool.
