Berlin based studio Ambivalenz created Fläpps leaning shelf, which to me is an example of simplicity and function combined. The shelf is easy to put together, it folds flat against the wall when not in use, and it can withstand quite a lot of things in its business mode. A design any shoebox dweller can definitely appreciate! Thanks to its clean lines, Fläpps can blend with any interior and benefit any room that need extra storage. The piece is made from birch plywood with metal hardware.

I am rarely this excited about a product. Fläpps shelving system from Ambivalenz is everything I have ever loved about space-saving furniture. Each module is a stand-alone shelf that can be combined with other Fläpps modules to become a wall shelving system. A unique wall mounting mechanism effortlessly permits up to 5 shelves to be stacked vertically. When unfolded, the Fläpps shelving system offers endless applications in the office, living room, kitchen, dressing room or entrance hall. And if you need to display a tall item or simply don’t need all this surface space (like that’ll ever happen), simply fold the shelves up. The piece comes in black and white and in various sizes.

This project from Berlin based studio Ambivalenz is aesthetically pleasing and makes a lot of sense too. The collection of collapsible pieces – chair, stool and coat rack – can be stored completely flat. But here is the kicker – one side of each piece features artwork, so it can be displayed on the wall instead of occupying your closet. What a neat idea! I also quite like the string folding/unfolding mechanism that brings the stool and the coatrack in motion. The stool can be turned upside down and serve as a magazine rack. Plain white versions of each item are also available. The Ambivalenz collection is currently displayed at the Designers Fair 2012 in Cologne.
