I heart Resource Furniture. How can I not – they think, breathe and dream small spaces. In this video the company’s president Ron Barth shows some of their new models. His New York accent does not surprise me at all! If you are in the area – check out the flagship store.

This bookcase is a proof that product designers are geeking out too. A human height book robot, called Robox, was created by Fabio Novembre for Casamania. The piece is made of metal, and thanks to its unexpected shape can house books of many different sizes. The red heart feature is especially touching. I could think of a few tomes to put in there…

When it comes to bathroom storage we, small space inhabitants, are not spoiled with the abundance of choice. Which is why this collection from Royo Group is so exciting. The Keops Evolution series feature functional drawers and shelves around the bathtub itself. This elegant solution allows for much needed product/towel storage while taking virtually no extra space. It also provides for easy access to your beauty spoils. Thoughtful… The bathtub finishes are available in white acrylic and walnut and the furniture part can be chosen to be white or black.

Since we are on the subject of kitchen space – here is an interesting idea from German designer Kilian Schindler. His Concept Kitchen, designed for Naber, is a modular system that allows to built various configurations on the same frame. You can combine your basic worktop with either an oven, sink or storage. The basic elements are made from steel and easy to disassemble. They feature pre-drilled grid patterns for the flexible arranging of construction and storage shelves. So, if you decide to move house or remodel the existing one – there is at least one major project you can cross off your to-do your list.

A dish rack is the worst space offender in the kitchen, if you ask me. Even if it is cool and designy, it still takes a lot of precious counter real estate. The mission of this product is to change all that by eliminating the need for a dish rack altogether. Andrew Parsons of Canada’s Humber College developed a concept for Electrolux, called Breeze. It is a portable dryer that helps you quickly dry your hand washed dishes. The principle is simple – a digital pulse motor concentrates air to a thin stream that blows the plate dry when once moved through the machine. The air travels at a speed of 400 MPH (644 km/h) and leaves your dishes dry and, since you’re not using towels, bacteria free and safe. Brilliant!

Bedpack is a clever design by Eveline Borgermans that can help you to organize your bedside space. We all like to see our bedroom neat and serene, but at the same time – we like to have our essential things at our fingertips. Bedpack allows to achieve both. It hangs off the sides of the bed giving you an extra space for your books, notepads, glasses, medicine or anything else you need to have immediate access to. The product is available in several sizes and various colors.

Most carpets are passive objects, they rarely possess any functions other than lying there and looking pretty. Not this one. Designed by the Alexander Munk Design Byreau, the unusual piece, called Sasan Magic Carpet, can perform many roles. It has four sections, which will allow you fold it in many different ways. While perfectly functional just as a carpet, it can double as sitting, lounging, and even as an extra sleeping place should you need one. Smart stuff!

The grilling season is upon us. And if you live in a tiny city apartment with limited outdoor space – you need a plan. This elegant solution by Johan Ridderstrale and Mats Broberg, designed for Röshults, might help. The sleek charcoal table grill is easy enough to put together – it only consists of one removable zincked charcoal holder, an ash catcher, and a chromed cooking grate. The piece measures 35 x 35 x 14 cm, which makes it suitable for even the tiniest of balconies. And when the summer is over – it can be easily stored away. The table grill can be powder-coated in silver, antracit and white.

This furniture collection from Australian company KARTON made me gasp. The pieces are so elaborately designed – I can barely perceive them as temporary solutions. Constructed from high grade corrugated cardboard, the line ranges from seating, dining and sleeping pieces to office furniture and modular storage. No tools and hardware are required to put these objects together. And when not needed, they duly fold flat, just like cardboard should. It is easy to individualize your KARTON furniture too. Paint and varnish only improves the product by creating a protective layer. Genius!

Here is another highlight from the DMY festival in Berlin – the universal table leg system by designer Jakob Schenk, called Tick. The leg looks like a big paper clip and can be attached to any material – glass, wood, plastic, you name it… You now have the power to build a table (or a bench) out anything that can provide a flat surface. How awesome is that? Tick is either powdercoated, chromed or made of stainless steel, which makes it suitable for both indoor and outdoor furniture creations.
