Paris based designer Patrick Nadeau created this hip and flexible planter for the German brand Authentics. Aptly called Urban Garden Bag, the piece offers a modern way to create an indoor garden when space is tight. Made of black coated polyester fabric, the Urban Garden Bag is lined with an inner sack of watertight PVC geomembrane. Each bag has a water retaining clay granulate drainage system in the bottom along with three water-level gauges. The bags are available in three sizes: small (1 liter), medium (2,5 liters) and large (9 liters). Available for purchase here.

Looking for my own kitchen inspiration, I’ve stumped upon this beautiful DIY remodel. The author of the projet, Linn, states in her blog that the whole ordeal took one month and $6,230. She shares the details of the project, including marble and granite floor work and stainless steal couter installation. I’m especially loving the subway tile, the cabinet hardware, and the overall lightness of the room, which visually opens up this 90 square feet space. A clever, simple and tasteful makeover.

This small but cozy apartment in Gothenburg’s Lorensberg district, found through Stadshem, demonstrates a great use of space. The place in its entirety is only 38 square meters (little more than 400 square feet). Yet it includes all essential components without looking cramped. The sleeping loft (my personal favorite detail) is connected to the floor-to-ceiling bookcase. The space under the staircase is used for storage, uncluttering other areas of the apartment. Unified surfaces and unobstructed sunlight make the place appear bigger. Beautiful design, seriously flares up my real estate envy…

There is something inherently ugly about multiple socket extension cords. Add to it clutter they create and the fact that there is never one to be found when needed… Not my favorite household item. But someone has been doing more than complaining. Netherlands-based designer Dave Hakkens has developed this brilliant item, called PlugBook. Made in the shape of a book which hides itself between your other books, the item is minimal and simple. PlugBook features 10 feet/3 meter cable, two standard sockets and two USB ports for charging iPhones, iPads, cameras and what have you. The cord automatically rewinds at the push of a button. Neat. Make a pledge on Dave’s Kickstarter page if you want to get yours.

Le Scriban is the name of this small but quite storage generous desk by Marseille based young designer Margaux Keller. The piece is a hybrid workspace and console table with built in storage and display. Leaning against the wall, the desk is minimal and light. And the clever slots for papers, books, frames and other home office items provide storage and full visibility. No more searching for things in drawers… Le Scriban desk is made of oiled solid oak.

What urban dweller doesn’t dream of a piece of outdoor space… We are so cramped in our tiny boxes, even a little balcony would make our lives brighter. But we all know that any step outside the dimensions of your apartment is an expensive luxury. But maybe there is a way to make that step without paying a fortune. Dutch architectural firm Hofman Dujardin has designed the Bloomframe, an innovative window that transforms into a balcony with the click of a button. What an exciting idea! This dynamic balcony is flexible and can be installed in the variety of buildings.

It’s Only a Paper Moon Lamp is the name of this simple and honest little piece, created by London based designer Kazuhiro Yamanaka. The object is reduced to three elements – a clothing pin, a bare bulb and a plain piece of paper. You can adjust the intensity of the light by varying the size of the paper. Very low tech and charming.

This innovative flower pot from Psychic Factory is a great idea for forgetful urban gardeners and those who travel a lot. The piece, called iGrow, conserves a week’s supply of water that gets automatically absorbed by the soil. The design prevents spills and allows to avoid access water (a breeding ground for insects). Beautiful, simple and straightforward concept.

The interior of this house near Portland, Oregon looks so open and spacious, it’s hard to believe that the footprint of the entire place is only 540 square feet. Designer Jessica Helgerson and her family bought this property in 2008. The main goal of the renovation was not to increase the square footage, but rather change the floor plan to create more space. A great room includes the kitchen, dining room and living room with large, comfortable, built in sofas that double as twin beds for guests. Drawers under the sofas hold children’s toys and a wall of shelves is a beautiful showcase for a home library. Putting the parents’ bed above the ground was another clever space-saving move. This remodel was achieved using almost exclusively reclaimed materials and repurposed items, found around the property. The floors are local Oregon white oak, and the dining table was made from locally salvaged walnut. The range is a vintage Craigslist find, and the tub was salvaged from a friend’s demolition site…
