Given my soft spot for bike storage and multifunctional design, I was delighted to encounter BH #2 – a beautiful bike stand by French designer Thibaut Malet. Minimalist and lightweight, the piece is a thing of visual beauty. It requires no screws and wall mounting efforts. You simply lean BH #2 against any sturdy vertical surface – and the installation is complete. Based on a ladder principle the bike stand is foldable to ensure easy moving and storage. The piece features additional shelves for your riding gear, entryway items or any small objects. The absence of metal hardware (the bike stand is made entirely of wood) adds to the clean simplicity of the design.
Swedish design studio Karl Andersson & Söner created this casual and stylish storage ladder, called Plisado. The piece consists of a wooden frame and canvas slings that can hold anything from papers and magazines to items of clothing, toys, accessories and more. Plisado is one of those ingenious storage solutions that provide extra space while taking none of it by themselves. The fabric comes in red or charcoal; and the frames, made of solid ash, can be finished in clear lacquer or brushed in gray.

Knock Knock is a simple and versatile shelving system by German design company Hoj Studio. The unit is modular and consists of the tree basic components that are attached to each other via braces. From these parts you can create a bookshelf, a kitchen cabinet, a desk with flexible storage, an entryway piece, and more. The combinations are endless. The Knock Knock shelving is made of solid oak and purposely left semi-finished, so you can personalize it further (or not). Designer Tim Defleur created these multifunctional tables, called simply ETC. The function of each of these items is meant to be defined by the user, designer doesn’t presume that you’ll use them only as side tables, desks, bedside tables or other. The ETC tables can be all that and more. The line consists of three lovely oak pieces that can be grouped or used individually in any room of the house for dining, working, storage etc. The tables feature tablet-friendly grooves, cord openings and leg-mounted platforms for computer adapters. Technology- and small space-friendly, ETC tables make a lot of sense for an urban apartment dweller.
When it comes to clutter – it’s all about the little things. Without a proper place they tend to accumulate and create visual frenzy. This little shelf by Icelandic architects Árný Þórarinsdóttir and Helga Guðrún Vilmundardóttir of studio Stáss can be just the thing to solve the problem. Thanks to its clever shape, Fold shelf is able to accommodate many different types of objects, which makes it useful for busy areas of the house – entryway, kitchen, home office. The piece is made from powder coated aluminum and comes in turquoise and gray.

Here is a clever way to put work at home on its proper place – a wall desk that closes when not in use. The piece, designed by Canada based designer Glenn Ross, offers a practical and space-saving approach to home office. Designed to be used when standing, it is perfect for underused spaces. You can mount it in the entryway or even in the kitchen as a mail sorting/writing/catch all item. Slots and drawers are sized to fit standard letter paper. The desk is made from bent birchply with a choice of five wood veneers.
This beautifully made coffee table has been created by Australian designer David Cummins. The piece is inspired by mid-20th century modernist aesthetic, which is a bit of a fetish of mine. I also like the small size of the table – only about 47 inches long and 16 inches wide. But in spite of its modest proportions the piece boasts ample storage, thanks to two generous drawers. A perfect little piece, that can lend an air of class to any dwelling. Bridge coffee table is handcrafted from solid Tesmanian Blackwood and finished with natural oil and wax.
