Jye Stool + Table is a multifunctional object created by Sydney based company Craft Design Realisation. It can be used as a stool, occasional table, night table or bench. Several Jye pieces can interlock and form longer surfaces. The item is beautifully handcrafted from assorted solid timbers and covered with natural Danish oil. And because CDR people specialize on handmade one off items, they can make it in any size or finish of your choice.
Indoor gardening in a tiny city apartment is mostly a victory of hope over reality. The counter and windowsill real estate is just too scarce. That is why designers try to help us, urban folks, to build vertically and elevate our plants and our gardening spirit. This smart concept by Emanuela Stocco, called Orto Novo, is a soaring example. The system is comprised of interlocking modules that can make up a structure as high and wide as your space would allow. The planters, placed inside the loops, hold the system together. Made from powder coated aluminum, Orto Novo can come in a variety of colors.
Bunk beds are a great space-saving solution, but they are very rarely beautiful. The Maja bed from Helsinki based design studio Aalto+Aalto is an exception. Inspired by treehouses, this bed prototype is a true delight for the senses. It is also modular and can be build in several different ways according to your space requirements.

And judging by the looks of the product, it was not an empty promise. I struggle to find one thing they haven’t thought of. The line features clever interlocking design, it is shelf and drawer compatible, each jar has a build-in spoon leveler. Cara De Planta is a modular vertical garden system comprised of series of waterproof pockets. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor spaces (assuming you are lucky enough to have both), these modular segments are easy to install. Scene is a smart flexible storage system, created by Dick Spierenburg for Arco. Each unit is comprised of a wooden frame and various metal storage components, freely placed inside it. The components can be open, closed, or with doors and drawers, depending on your storage needs. The frame system itself it modular and can create various configurations – wall units, sideboards, bookcases etc. The sideboard version features a cable transit in the backside for media storage. Scene allows for different color combinations as well. I struggle to imagine what else we can want from a storage system…
Xcentric is a coffee table set, created by Serbian designer Goci Bjelajac. The set is comprised of two identical but mirrored tables, which you can put together to create various configurations. Each piece can also function as a free-standing end table to provide storage where it is needed. Xcentic us quite stable too, it stands on rubber legs, hidden beneath the lower board, which in turn can be used as a newspaper rack.
This multifunctional modular storage system from J1 Studio can be built in any direction. Called T.Shelf, the product is made up of multiple plywood triangles (the strongest geometric shape). These triangles are connected to one another via simple zipties, which makes the system easy to assemble. The beauty of the T.Shelf is in its flexibility. There is an infinite number of things you can create with it – free standing shelf, wall unit, bookcase, coffee table base, you name it. Very clever.
This versatile piece of furniture, called Tokotoko, can perform several roles in your home. It can serve as a side (or bedside) table, as a stool, or it can even be stacked to create a modular shelving unit. This piece, called Mushiki, was created by Tomas Alonso of London based design company Okay Studio for Arco. Inspired by Japanese steaming pots (hence the name), the piece can be compiled from several round structures, which turn to reveal generous storage inside. The movement happens via rotation around the wooden column. The Mushiki table, just like its culinary predecessor, is made from bamboo, a strong and sustainable material. The modules are available in two sizes.
