n-eurocover

If fiddling with wiring is not your domain – consider this witty creation by Beppe Merlano, designed for the lighting brand Davide Groppi. The N-Euro pendant lamp embraces cordage and makes it a focal point. The cord is running freely and visibly from the ceiling to the powers source and is held in place by round connect-the-dots insulators. With this unorthodox approach you can really let your artistic flag fly and create various patterns on your walls and ceiling. The N-Euro lamp comes in black and white. Watch the video after the break to see how easily it is installed.

Genova based studio Gosplan is the author of this inspiring project. The small apartment (only 35 m²) is located on the top floor of the fisherman’s house in Camogli. And in spite of its modest size, it includes all that is necessary for a comfortable living. Architects explain: “The project aim was to build two bedrooms, a studio, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom, despite the gambrel roof and the very small floor surface. That led to a tailored apartment, where each room is a piece of furniture: after you have used it, you can close it.” This must be the smallest two-bedroom flat I’ve ever seen! I love the way the second bedroom is disguised as a small den. The plentitude of built-ins allows the place to look neat and unifies the surfaces.

This simple and stylish shelf mirror made me look. Comprised of two interlocking parts, it can be assembled in seconds and disassembled again for storage and transportation. Love the angular shape of the piece. The wooden hook is also a nice touch. Available for purchase from Golden Biscotti.

The Aqueduct 3D-printed modular planter by Evan Gant is a very interesting idea. It makes a lot of sense. Here is how designer describes it: “This modular system utilizes the connections between each planter as a method of transferring water from the top planter to the lower planters. Each plant is saturated with water on its way down the bottom planter empties out into a larger potted plant.” How smart is that? And it looks rather cute too. Available for purchase here.

kartell_trix_hr_orange_web_3

This clever transformable piece, called Trix, has been created by the famed Piero Lissoni for Italian brand Kartell. The beauty of the idea is in a simple rotating movement, with which Trix can be transformed into several different types of furniture. From a day bed, to a lounger or an armchair, even an ottoman. Lay it directly on the floor or carpet, or mount it on a platform; it looks and functions equally great in either arrangement. Trix is made of expanded polyurethane and is upholstered in three-dimensional woven polyester fabric. Available for purchase here.

wok4

We are at that point of a summer season, when grilling fun starts to wear a bit thin. If you are tired of burgers on a barbecue, check out this product from the Austrian brand What a Wok. It allows you to expand the horizons of traditional outdoor cooking and include some healthy alternatives. The product is comprised of a metal bucket that you would fill with wood or coal, a clay topper and a wok pan. Just ignite the coal and start cooking. I also love the fact that the whole apparatus is very compact and easy to store till the next season. Wishlisted.

A big part of the appeal of Apple products is their streamlined design. However, if our workspace is cluttered – the minimalist effect is nulled. Bind is a new noteworthy Kickstarter project that offers a very simple and clever solution. This acrylic fame is designed to keep your keyboard and track-pad aligned while you’re working. And when the work is done – simply attach it to the back of your iMac monitor for easy storage. CLIP 2

Some people love cars, some – shoes, I every now and again fall in love with a piece of furniture. Behold my latest object of infatuation – the Clip table by Polish designer Jan Kochanski. Minimalist, multifunctional, and folds flat for storage… Aesthetics wise – definitely a looker. Designer says that the steel frame has been inspired by paperclips (hence the name). And the oak tabletop can serve as a tray, when detached from the base. Beautiful.

Forming-the-Border-Desk-Juhui-Cho-1

Aptly named Forming the Border, this desk by Juhui Cho lets you make a clear distinction between work and home life. Which is a big thing for those of us who plots their world domination plans in a tiny apartment. Made from wood covered with PVC, the desk disguises itself as a neutral looking cabinet when closed. When open, it reveals a secluded personalized workstation, complete with a shelf and a place to hang a lighting fixture. The semi-transparent PVC panels allow light to pass through and turn the desk/cabinet into an ambient light object. One small concern – the lighting bulb could be distracting, hanging so close to the desktop. I’d prefer a built-in diffused illumination. Love the piece otherwise.
